A D-shackle is the most fundamental load-connecting fitting in rigging, lifting, and securing applications - a D-shaped steel bow with a threaded pin closure that creates a reliable, rated connection point between chain, wire rope, lifting rings, and anchor fittings. At the DIY Hardware Store, our D-shackles are available in the sizes and grades most commonly used in general industrial, agricultural, marine, and DIY load-handling applications.
The D-shackle has a narrower bow than a bow shackle, making it better suited to straight in-line loads where the load direction is aligned with the shackle axis. The threaded pin is tightened by hand and should be moused (secured against unscrewing) in applications where vibration could cause the pin to back out under load. Working load limits vary significantly by size and material grade - always select a shackle with a WLL in excess of the maximum load it will experience.
