Collection: Turnbuckles

A turnbuckle - also known as a rigging screw, bottle screw, or stretching screw - is the in-line tensioning device used to adjust the tension in wire rope, rod, chain, and cable systems after installation. At the DIY Hardware Store, our turnbuckles cover the hook-and-hook, hook-and-eye, and eye-and-eye formats used in garden wire training systems, wire balustrade, boat rigging, gate bracing, and structural tension applications.

A turnbuckle consists of a central body with left-hand and right-hand threaded end fittings - turning the body in one direction draws both end fittings inward simultaneously, shortening the total length and increasing the tension in the wire or cable. Turning it the other way extends the body and reduces tension. This simple mechanism allows precise in-service tension adjustment without disconnecting the wire from its anchor points, and allows seasonal re-tensioning as the cable or wire relaxes under sustained load.

Available in zinc-plated and stainless steel at the DIY Hardware Store in the sizes used for domestic garden wire training and light structural tensioning applications.
