When two lengths of wire need to be joined end to end cleanly and securely, a butt terminal - also known as a butt splice connector - is the right fitting for the job. At the DIY Hardware Store, our butt terminals are available in colour-coded sizes to match standard wire gauges, providing reliable electrical connections for automotive, marine, and general low-voltage wiring projects.

A butt terminal is a cylindrical metal sleeve with an insulating sleeve, designed to accept a stripped wire from each end and be crimped firmly onto both. The result is a clean, compact in-line splice that maintains full conductivity, insulates the joint against shorts, and provides good pull-out resistance. This is the standard method for extending or repairing wiring in cars, vans, trailers, and caravans, and is widely used in marine and motorcycle electrical work too.

Colour coding (red for 0.5-1.5mm sq , blue for 1.5-2.5mm sq , yellow for 2.5-6.0mm sq ) allows quick selection of the correct terminal for the wire gauge being used. A proper ratchet crimping tool ensures the crimp is applied with consistent force for a gas-tight, vibration-resistant joint.
