Collection: Compression Fittings

Compression fittings are the standard method for joining copper pipe in domestic plumbing without the need for a blowtorch or solder. At the DIY Hardware Store, our compression fittings range covers the full selection of elbows, tee pieces, straight couplings, stop ends, and reducers used in hot and cold water supply, central heating circuits, and other low-pressure pipework systems.

A compression fitting works by sandwiching an olive (a small brass or copper ring) between the fitting body and a compression nut. When the nut is tightened, it compresses the olive against the pipe and the fitting body simultaneously, creating a watertight seal without heat or adhesive. The joint is demountable - it can be undone and remade if required, although the olive is typically replaced each time.

Compression fittings are the preferred choice for DIY plumbing projects where soldering skills are not available, for joining to existing copper pipe where heat near other materials is a risk, and for connections that may need future access. Available in 15mm and 22mm sizes as standard.
