Collection: Hooks Bands and Plates

The traditional hook and band hinge - also known as a hook-and-eye hinge or pintail hinge - is the classic surface-mounted gate and door hinge used on ledged timber gates, shed doors, stable doors, and garden structures throughout the UK. At the DIY Hardware Store, our hooks, bands, and plates range covers the hook eyes, strap bands, and flat plate hook systems used in traditional gate and outbuilding hanging applications.

A hook-and-band set consists of a hook (screwed or driven into the gate post) and a band (a long strap that wraps around and bolts to the gate itself), with the band's looped eye sitting over the hook to create the hinge pivot. The strap band distributes the hanging load along the gate timber rather than concentrating it at a single point, making this system better suited to wide, heavy timber gates than a conventional butt hinge would be.

Available in straight and cranked configurations to suit different gate and post arrangements, in black painted, galvanised, and hot-dip treated finishes for long-term outdoor performance. The DIY Hardware Store stocks sizes from light domestic garden gate sets through to heavy field gate hardware.
