About our Wire Rope range
Wire rope - also known as steel wire rope or SWR - is the stranded steel cable used for structural tension, load lifting, rigging, and securing applications where the combination of high tensile strength, flexibility, and resistance to abrasion makes it the preferred material over solid rod, chain, or fibre rope. At the DIY Hardware Store, our wire rope range covers the galvanised steel wire rope used in domestic and light industrial rigging, gate and barrier applications, and load securing.
Wire rope is constructed from multiple individual wires twisted into strands, which are then twisted around a central core - the multi-layer construction gives flexibility while maintaining high tensile strength. The most common domestic grades are 7x7 (flexible, good for general use) and 7x19 (more flexible, used where the rope must run over sheaves or through tight bends). Galvanised wire rope provides good outdoor corrosion resistance for garden, agricultural, and marine applications.
Available in 3mm, 4mm, and 6mm diameters at the DIY Hardware Store in galvanised steel, with compatible thimbles, clamps, and ferrules for terminating and joining wire rope assemblies.
