Stormproof Hinges

A stormproof hinge is the specialist casement window hinge designed to work with stormproof window frames - the rebated profile where the outer sash closes against a stepped rebate in the frame rather than a simple flat face. At the DIY Hardware Store, our stormproof hinges are the correct specification for timber casement windows built to the stormproof profile, where a standard butt or easy-clean hinge would not provide the correct clearance geometry.

The stormproof hinge's offset knuckle and leaf geometry is designed so that when the sash closes, the leaves fold correctly to allow the sash rebate to seat into the frame rebate without the hinge preventing full closure. A standard hinge on a stormproof frame would either prevent the rebate from seating, create a gap on the hinge side, or require the frame to be modified. The stormproof hinge is the engineered solution that allows the window to close and seal correctly while the hinge operates in the limited space available.
