Collection: Retaining Clips

Retaining clips - most commonly known as R-clips, hairpin cotter pins, or spring cotter pins - are the simple, reusable fasteners used to retain pins, rods, and shafts in their working position by passing through a hole at the pin end and springing open to prevent withdrawal. At the DIY Hardware Store, our retaining R-clips are available for the agricultural, engineering, and general mechanical applications where this straightforward, tool-free retaining solution is the correct choice.

The R-clip (named for its shape) passes through a drilled hole in the end of a clevis pin or hitch pin, with the spring legs springing apart on the far side to lock the pin in position. It can be removed and replaced by hand in seconds, making it ideal for connections that need to be regularly assembled and disassembled - tractor implement hitches, trailer connections, gate fittings, and equipment assemblies where a split pin would require a tool to replace.

Available in zinc-plated steel in standard agricultural and engineering sizes at the DIY Hardware Store.
