Retaining Clips

Retaining clips - most commonly known as R-clips, hairpin cotter pins, or spring cotter pins - are the simple, reusable fasteners used to retain pins, rods, and shafts in their working position by passing through a hole at the pin end and springing open to prevent withdrawal. The R-clip (named for its shape) passes through a drilled hole in the end of a clevis pin or hitch pin, with the spring legs springing apart on the far side to lock the pin in position.
