A U-bolt is the U-shaped threaded fastener used to clamp around cylindrical objects - pipes, tubes, bars, and round-section structural members - securing them to a flat mounting surface with two nuts tightened onto the parallel threaded legs. At the DIY Hardware Store, our U-bolts and matching nuts cover the sizes used in automotive exhaust systems, pipe mounting, vehicle body and chassis fabrication, and general engineering applications.
The most common application for U-bolts in domestic use is as exhaust clamps - the standard method for connecting sections of exhaust pipe, clamping a new silencer section, or securing an exhaust system to a vehicle chassis. The U-bolt wraps around the exhaust pipe and the flat plate distributes the clamping load across a wider area of the pipe surface, tightened with two nuts on the threaded legs. For this application, they're commonly called exhaust clamps and are sized by the outer diameter of the pipe being clamped.
Available in zinc-plated steel at the DIY Hardware Store in the standard exhaust and pipe clamping diameters, with matching square nuts.
