Collection: Turnbuttons

A turnbutton - also known as a turn catch or turn fastener - is a small rotating catch that holds a cabinet door, access panel, or glazing bead closed by swinging a flat metal or plastic arm across the gap between door and frame and locking in place with friction. At the DIY Hardware Store, our turnbuttons cover the standard formats used on cabinet doors, display case glazing, and small access panels where a positive but easily released closure is needed.

The turnbutton is one of the simplest possible cabinet catches - a single slotted screw acts as both the fixing and the pivot, and the elongated oval body rotates to engage against the door edge or frame face, holding the panel closed by bearing contact. A quarter-turn in either direction releases the catch. They're used on the backs of picture frames to hold the backing board in place, on display cabinet glazing to retain the glass panels, and on small access doors where a more complex latch mechanism would be disproportionate.

Available in zinc-plated steel and brass at the DIY Hardware Store in the small sizes most commonly used for cabinet and display case applications.
