Collection: Triple Point Flat Bits

A triple-point flat bit (also known as a spade bit or paddle bit) is the large-diameter wood drilling bit used in power drills and power screwdrivers to bore holes through timber for cable, pipe, and dowel routing. At the DIY Hardware Store, our triple-point flat bits cover the standard sizes used for routing electrical cable through joists and studs, boring holes for plastic pipe runs, and creating large-diameter openings in timber structures during building and renovation work.

The flat (paddle) profile allows large holes to be cut at relatively low cost compared to forstner or auger bits, making flat bits the practical choice for cable routing and general construction boring work where a smooth, clean-sided hole is less important than fast material removal at an economical price. The triple-point (three-spur) tip helps to centre the bit on the intended hole location and reduces the tendency to wander that affects single-point flat bits, particularly when starting a hole at an angle.

Available in the standard sizes for electrical and plumbing cable routing at the DIY Hardware Store - 16mm, 20mm, 22mm, 25mm, and 32mm are the most commonly needed sizes for domestic installation work.

  • Large-diameter timber boring for cable and pipe routing
  • Triple-point tip improves centring and reduces wander
  • Economical alternative to forstner bits for construction use
  • 16mm to 32mm sizes for electrical and plumbing routing
  • Suitable for use in standard power drills and driver-drills
  • Essential for first-fix electrical and plumbing installation
