A fully specified door requires more components than just the handle and lock - there are a number of secondary fittings that complete the functional and aesthetic specification of a door installation. A rebate set is needed when a mortice latch is to be installed in a rebated door pair - a pair of rebated faceplate sections that allow the latch bolt to engage correctly with the striking plate across the rebate step. Bolt-through latches allow a latch bolt to be fitted through a door without the standard mortice pocket - useful for thin or solid-core door sections. Spare door spindles allow a handle mechanism to be extended for use on thicker doors, or to replace a worn or broken spindle in an existing handle set. Mortice knob sets provide the complete knob-and-spindle assembly for standard mortice latch operation.
