Collection: Cavity Anchors

Fixing into a hollow wall - whether plasterboard on a timber or metal stud frame, or a hollow block wall - requires a fixing that can expand or fold behind the board to create a bearing surface on the far side. At the DIY Hardware Store, our cavity anchors range covers the most reliable types of hollow wall fixings for domestic and light commercial applications.

Standard hollow wall anchors (also known as Molly bolts or metal cavity anchors) work by pulling a collar back to form a wide flange behind the board, spreading the load across a larger area than a standard plug. They suit heavier loads than plastic toggles and provide a permanent, repeatable fixing - once set, the anchor can be removed and replaced with a bolt of the same thread size without the fixing loosening.

Toggle bolts use a spring-loaded wing mechanism that passes through the hole in the folded position and then opens behind the board, creating a broad bearing surface against the back face for particularly heavy fixings or walls where standard anchors don't provide sufficient load capacity.

  • Metal cavity anchors (Molly bolts) for permanent heavy-duty fixings
  • Spring toggle bolts for heavy loads in hollow walls
  • Spreads load across the back face of plasterboard
  • Suitable for plasterboard on timber and metal stud frames
  • Reusable fixing point once anchor is set
  • Available in sizes to suit different board thicknesses
