Junction Boxes

A junction box is the enclosed enclosure in which electrical cables are joined, terminated, or branched - protecting the connections from mechanical damage, contamination, and accidental contact while providing a code-compliant, accessible joint location. At the DIY Hardware Store, our junction boxes cover the standard round and rectangular formats used in domestic mains wiring, lighting circuits, and low-voltage installations.

UK electrical regulations require that all cable joints in mains wiring be made within an appropriate enclosure - a junction box or back box - and that all such enclosures remain accessible (not buried permanently in plaster or inaccessible voids). Round junction boxes with terminal blocks suit standard lighting circuit branching; deeper rectangular versions accommodate more cables and larger wire gauges for power circuit joints. IP-rated weatherproof versions are available for external or damp location use.
