Plastic Traps

The plastic trap under a sink, basin, or bath is the U-shaped or bottle-shaped fitting that holds a small volume of water to create a water seal against drain odours entering the room - one of the most important and most overlooked components in any domestic plumbing installation. Trap selection depends on whether the waste exits horizontally through the wall (P-trap) or vertically through the floor (S-trap), and on the aesthetic requirements of the installation (a bottle trap is the choice for exposed under-basin plumbing where a traditional U-bend would look untidy). For kitchen sinks, twin and triple bowl configurations require either a combined trap or separate traps feeding a common waste. Washing machine traps incorporate a standpipe connection for the appliance hose.
