Collection: Heavy Self Drilling Screws

Where you need to fix into thick-section steel without pre-drilling or tapping, a heavy self-drilling screw - also known as a Tek screw or self-drilling metalwork screw - is the right fastener for the job. At the DIY Hardware Store, our heavy self-drilling screws are available for the structural steel fabrication, metal roofing, and heavy-gauge sheet metal applications that require a fastener capable of drilling its own hole and forming its own thread in one operation.

Heavy self-drilling screws feature a drill-point tip (the Tek point) that cuts through the steel substrate before the screw thread engages. The drill point must be matched to the combined material thickness it needs to penetrate - light Tek points for thin sheet; heavier, longer drill points for thicker sections. Using a drill point too light for the material results in the thread engaging before the hole is complete, causing the fastener to seize and potentially break. Available in hex washer head and pan head configurations, in zinc-plated and organic-coated finishes at the DIY Hardware Store.
